Student housing shortages impact universities in Luxembourg and France
Student housing shortages and rising costs are creating significant challenges for university students in Luxembourg and France.
In Luxembourg, a survey by the Association des cercles d’étudiants luxembourgeois (ACEL) involving 432 participants reveals that over 56% of respondents struggled to obtain student housing from the University of Luxembourg. The association noted long waiting periods of up to six months and unclear communication. The issue is particularly acute for non-EU students, with 68.8% reporting difficulties compared to 43.3% of EU students.
In Créteil, France, the local government is managing high rental prices for its approximately 36,000 students. As one of France’s most expensive university cities, Créteil is seeing an influx of private investment, such as the inauguration of France’s largest private student residence by Kley. Local authorities are working to balance the interests of private and social landlords to maintain housing stability.
