Josué Hernández Cayetano, UV student, found dead after 14-day disappearance

Josué Hernández Cayetano, a 21-year-old student at the Universidad Veracruzana (UV), has been found dead after being missing for 14 days in Xalapa, Veracruz. The student, who studied Systems Engineering and attended the university’s Language Center, was last seen on September 5, 2026, leaving his home in an altered state and traveling in a black Nissan X-Trail.

The Universidad Veracruzana and its Language Center issued official condolences following the confirmation of his death. While the State Search Commission deactivated the search alert after his body was located, the exact circumstances and cause of death remain unconfirmed by the Fiscalía General del Estado de Veracruz.

The incident has sparked concern within the university community, leading to calls for improved security, lighting, and surveillance near campus areas. This case is part of a series of student-related deaths and disappearances reported at the university in 2026, including other recent incidents involving students such as Daniela Sánchez Delgado, who also went missing in September.
