Student Josué Hernández Cayetano found dead after 14 days missing

Josué Hernández Cayetano, a 21-year-old student at the Universidad Veracruzana, has been found dead after being missing for 14 days in Xalapa. The student, who studied at the Faculty of Statistics and Informatics and the Language Center, was last seen on September 5, 2026, leaving his home in a black Nissan X-Trail.

The State Search Commission confirmed the deactivation of his missing person report following the discovery. While the Universidad Veracruzana issued official condolences, the Fiscalía General del Estado has not yet released the cause of death or the specific line of investigation being pursued.

This incident follows a series of fatalities involving students at the university in 2026, including homicides and traffic accidents. The student community has expressed concern regarding campus security, lighting, and surveillance, demanding more effective protection protocols and clarity in investigations involving university students.
