Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto continues hunger strike in Jharkhand
Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto is entering his 11th day of an indefinite hunger strike in Ranchi, protesting alleged corruption within the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations.
Mahto is currently receiving treatment at Sadar Hospital after sustaining injuries during a police lathi-charge on August 10. He has formally requested permission from medical authorities to leave the hospital and return to the protest site at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, stating that being separated from fellow protesters causes him more emotional distress than his physical ailments.
Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das visited Mahto at the hospital to inquire about his well-being and expressed support for the movement. Mahto emphasized in a letter to the Civil Surgeon that his strike will continue until justice is achieved for the thousands of students protesting for their rights and future.
