Student lives in Poland to avoid high London rent

Jonathan Davey, an anthropology student at Goldsmiths, University of London, has opted to live in Gdansk, Poland, to avoid the high cost of living in London. Davey found that renting accommodation near his university in London could cost up to £220 per week.

By living in Gdansk, he pays approximately £35 per week for a hostel. To attend classes, he flies from Poland to London every Wednesday morning and returns to Poland on Friday. By booking flights in advance and traveling with carry-on luggage only, he estimates his total annual expenses for accommodation in Poland, flights, and bus travel to be around £2,100.
