Student protests and financial audits reported in French municipalities

Widespread student mobilizations have led to unrest across several French cities, including Nantes, Drancy, and Marseille. Reports indicate instances of violence, such as burned high school facades in Nantes, mortar fire targeting supervisors in Drancy, and an incinerated fire truck in Marseille. While students have specific demands, the demonstrations have been marked by property damage and debates regarding urban violence.

Separately, financial audits have highlighted management issues in specific municipalities. In Drancy, an analysis by Bilan de Mandat suggests a deterioration in public finances and service management between 2020 and 2025 under the leadership of Aude Lagarde.

In Neuilly-sur-Seine, a recent audit covering the 2020–2026 period indicates a decline in financial health. The report attributes two-thirds of the municipality's difficulties to political choices made by Jean-Christophe Fromantin's administration. This financial situation is expected to lead to budget cuts in public services, including reductions in staff for security, education, and cleanliness, as well as decreased frequency of waste collection and limited community center hours.
