Student returns €100,000 after Austrian bank error
A 25-year-old Georgian student studying in Salzburg, Austria, returned over €100,000 to Sparkasse Salzburg after receiving a massive overpayment due to a human error at the bank.
The student had originally requested a withdrawal of €12,900 to prove financial means for a residence permit. However, he left the branch with more than €120,000. After handing the money to a friend and attending a training session, the bank contacted him to report the discrepancy.
Upon realizing the error, the student and his friend returned to the bank to rectify the situation. Sparkasse Salzburg confirmed the incident was caused by human error, apologized for the inconvenience, and thanked the student for his cooperation. As a gesture of thanks, the bank presented him with a bag of gummy candies featuring the bank's logo.
