Student unions in Nagaland and Meghalaya address local grievances

The Khiamniungan Students’ Union (KSU) in Nagaland has suspended its planned second phase of agitation following an agreement with the Nagaland Public Works Department (PWD). A joint meeting is scheduled for October 28 in Noklak to discuss issues regarding the construction of the 31-km Jendang Saddle-Noklak-Pangsha road and the 14.54-km Noklak-Thonoknyu road. The union's demands include transparency regarding land compensation, identification of entities responsible for halting work for four years, and detailed accounts of sanctioned funds utilized for construction.

In Meghalaya, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) met with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to discuss several issues, including the Shree Cement inquiry. The union expressed hope for a resolution but criticized the fact-finding committee for not visiting the affected areas in East Jaintia Hills directly. The KSU also raised concerns regarding the legality of recent public hearings and addressed government recruitment reforms, noting the state's decision to abolish personal interviews for Group C posts by 2027.
