Students develop assistive robotic glove for Venezuelan hospital

Students from the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Brigade of Liceo Caracciolo Parra y Olmedo have developed a prototype assistive robotic glove for the Hospital Universitario de los Andes (Iahula) in Venezuela. The device is designed to improve communication for over 100 patients with motor limitations and severe speech difficulties.

The glove utilizes an interface of five integrated buttons that transmit signals to Android mobile devices. The project received technical and financial support from Fundacite Mérida and Fonacit through the Semilleros Científicos National Program. Hospital management will evaluate the tool's usability alongside medical staff.

The student team is also working on a second version intended to translate Venezuelan Sign Language (LSV) into text and synthetic voice via Bluetooth, which will undergo testing at the Ofelia Tancredi de Corredor School for the Deaf.
