Students fall ill in João Pessoa after consuming external food
Nine students at the Prof. Durmeval Trigueiro Mendes municipal school in João Pessoa fell ill on Thursday after consuming a sweet brought to class by a classmate. The students experienced symptoms including vomiting and itching.
Two students required medical attention and were taken to health units, including the Valentina UPA and Valentina Hospital. Both have since been discharged and are recovering at home.
The school administration clarified that the incident was not related to the school's provided meals, noting that the school does not sell snacks on site. The food, described as either a cake or a brigadeiro, was brought from an external establishment by a student.
Local Sanitary Surveillance (Visa-JP) inspected the school and collected a sample of the remaining food for laboratory analysis to determine the cause of the illness.
