Students in Alto Vastese protest new school schedules

Students and families in the Alto Vastese region of Italy are protesting new school schedules that eliminate Saturday classes in favor of extended weekday hours. The change requires students to stay in school until late afternoon, which critics argue disproportionately affects commuting students.

In Carunchio, the association Pro Trignina has formally requested a rescheduling of both school hours and transportation services. Representatives argue that the new timing forces students to depart extremely early in the morning and return late in the afternoon, often resulting in days lasting over twelve hours.

Concerns have been raised regarding the impact on student well-being, including reduced time for study, rest, and extracurricular activities. Protesters also highlighted the lack of local facilities for sports and culture in smaller towns compared to larger urban centers, further complicating the lives of students who must travel long distances to attend high school.
