Students in Argentina develop AI-powered agricultural robot

Students from the Escuela de Educación Técnica Nº 1 España in La Paz, Argentina, presented an interdisciplinary robotics project named ‘AgroVision’ at the VI International Congress of Educational and Industrial Robotics (Cirei) 2026 in Paraná.

The project was a collaborative effort between 4th-year programming students and 7th-year rural mechanical technicians. AgroVision is a self-propelled robot that utilizes artificial intelligence and computer vision to distinguish between healthy and diseased or infected plants. Once identified, the system applies phytosanitary products selectively to the affected plants, aiming to optimize resource use, reduce costs, and protect the soil.

Teacher Rafael Delgado noted that the project allowed for the integration of different technical disciplines to address real-world problems. The initiative, supported by the Consejo General de Educación (CGE), provided students the opportunity to present their technological solutions to professionals and peers within the industry.
