Students in Argentina present health-monitoring smart bracelet
Fourth-year programming students from the Escuela de Educación Técnica N°3 ‘Dr. Miguel Ángel Marsiglia’ in Concepción del Uruguay presented a smart bracelet at the VI International Congress of Educational and Industrial Robotics (Cirei) 2026 in Paraná.
The device is designed as a didactic resource to monitor heart rate and oxygen saturation (SpO2) non-invasively. Developed through an interdisciplinary approach involving biology, programming, and hardware, the system utilizes an ESP32 development board connected to a MAX30102 optical photoplethysmography sensor via an I2C bus. The bracelet allows for measurements during rest, exertion, and recovery stages.
Organizers of the congress specifically highlighted the project's ergonomic redesign, noting that the students successfully transitioned the prototype from a chest vest to a more practical wristband format, improving user adaptation and daily usability.
