Students in Rasuwa and surrounding districts move to residential schools after floods

Following devastating floods in the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading districts caused by a glacial lake outburst, educational authorities are implementing residential school arrangements to ensure students can continue their studies. In Rasuwa, Neelkantha Secondary School has established a hostel currently accommodating 80 students, including those from areas where bridges and houses were destroyed by the water.

The humanitarian impact on children is severe. Reports indicate that between 400 and 500 students are missing, with an estimated 100 to 200 children having lost both parents. In Rasuwa specifically, 285 students remain unaccounted for, 17 teachers are missing, and 39 students have lost both parents. Four schools in the Rasuwa district were completely destroyed by the disaster.

While some displaced students have reached Kathmandu and Batār in Nuwakot to attend school, others remain stuck in inaccessible areas due to destroyed road networks. Efforts are ongoing to provide stability for those orphaned or displaced by the catastrophe.
