Students in Spain and Mexico advance STEM through racing and drone competitions

Students in Spain and Mexico are participating in technological competitions designed to promote STEM fields. In Seville, the ARUS Andalucía Racing Team, composed of over 100 University of Seville students, has developed the ART-27D, a hydrogen-powered racing vehicle. Supported by a 30,000 euro grant from the Diputación de Sevilla, the team will tour four municipalities—El Viso del Alcor, El Palmar de Troya, Pedrera, and Olivares—between December 2026 and early 2027 to demonstrate electric propulsion and autonomous driving technologies.

In Mexico, the Tec Drone Championship Saltillo 2026, organized by Tec de Monterrey, features approximately 50 competitors from various regions including Monterrey and Toluca. The competition includes categories such as indoor flight, high-speed outdoor racing, and autonomous drone challenges. The event aims to encourage youth interest in engineering, programming, and mathematics through the development and piloting of advanced drone technology.
