Students report rats and infrastructure issues at Tijuca school

Students at Colégio Estadual Antônio Prado Júnior in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro have reported significant hygiene and infrastructure issues. According to reports circulating on social media, rodents have been spotted in classrooms and common areas. Despite previous pest control efforts, students claim the rats have returned, leading to concerns regarding the safety of using school water fountains and eating on campus.

In addition to the pest issues, a crack appeared in a school wall following strong winds in late July. This has resulted in the preventive closure of the main entrance, forcing students to use an alternative route. Students have expressed safety concerns regarding this new path, citing local reports of robberies and assaults.

The Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Education (Seeduc-RJ) stated that the Civil Defense inspected the wall and determined there is no risk of collapse. Funds for repairs have been approved and will be released shortly. Regarding the rodent problem, Seeduc-RJ maintained that pest control is up to date and will implement reinforced measures, attributing the issue to waste accumulation in a nearby lot.
