Students rescue aquatic life at Slapská reservoir

Students from the Secondary School of Ecology and Foodstuffs in Veselí nad Lužnicí participated in a rescue operation at the Slapská reservoir to save aquatic life. Due to low water levels, hundreds of mussels and small fish became trapped in shallow or drying sections of the reservoir.

The initiative was part of a campaign coordinated by the Czech Union for Nature Conservation in cooperation with the Vltava River Basin Authority. During the operation, students successfully relocated hundreds of mussels and various small fish back into deeper waters to ensure their survival.

For the first, second, and third-year students, the event served as a practical lesson in environmental protection, allowing them to witness the direct consequences of drought and changing water conditions in a real-world setting rather than through textbooks.
