Students showcase sustainable fashion using recycled materials

Students in the United Kingdom and Guyana are utilizing recycled and discarded materials to create sustainable fashion through various runway showcases.

In Exeter, students from Exeter College’s Art and Design faculty are participating in two live fashion shows at Princesshay Square. The initiative involves first-year students creating outfits from paper and card, while second-year students use donated garments and materials from local businesses such as Victoria’s Secret and Lucy & Yak. The event aims to promote responsible fashion by demonstrating how discarded items can be transformed into unique creations.

In Guyana, secondary school students participated in the ‘Trash to Fashion Show’ as part of the TVET Expo & Fair 2026 at the Arthur Chung Convention Centre. Under the theme ‘Recycle. Reinvent. Runway.’, students competed in categories including Casual Wear, Professional/Career Wear, Creative/Avant-Garde, and Cultural/Themed Wear. The event highlighted technical skills and innovation by tasking students to design outfits entirely from reused or recyclable materials.
