Students targeted by online tutor recruitment scams
Scammers are targeting students by posing as recruiters for online tutoring jobs on social media platforms like Facebook. After establishing trust, these individuals trick victims into providing bank account details, transferring money for various fees, or performing actions to register for credit loans.
In many instances, victims do not receive any payment but find themselves burdened with high-interest credit card debt or loans registered in their names. Some reported interest rates have exceeded 30% per year.
The Da Nang Cyber Security Division has issued warnings to the public, particularly students, to avoid sharing bank information, passwords, OTP codes, or personal identification documents with unverified recruiters. Authorities advise against paying any upfront fees for applications or job placements and caution against following instructions to open credit accounts or confirm loan limits through online recruiters.
