Students win awards for AI robotics and science innovations

Students from Hualien Vocational High School in Taiwan won three awards at the 18th Shangrise Smart Robotic Hand Competition. The team, comprising members from the Electromechanical and Electronic departments, successfully developed a robotic arm capable of traditional calligraphy using a real brush. The project required integrating AI technology to manage ink intake, brush movement, and pressure to ensure writing quality.

In Hong Kong, Po Leung Kuk Chu King Man College won the championship at the 59th Inter-school Science Exhibition. Their winning project is a drug recycling device that utilizes AI image recognition, crushing mechanisms, and activated carbon degradation to manage expired or unused medications, aiming to reduce environmental pollution. The school plans to use a government grant to upgrade its STEAM facilities and prepare students for international invention exhibitions.
