Studio Babelsberg opens new hybrid film production studios
Studio Babelsberg has expanded its technological capabilities with the opening of two new hybrid film production studios located at the fx. center Babelsberg. The LEDCave studio utilizes an LED volume, mobile LED walls, and a movable LED ceiling to enable in-camera visual effects (VFX). This setup integrates real-time filming with cloud technologies and generative AI, allowing digital sets to adapt to camera movements instantly. Complementing this is the Grey Stage, a flexible environment that combines traditional filming with green screen, motion capture, and 3D/4D scanning to digitally capture actors and props.
In conjunction with these technological advancements, the annual MediaTech Hub Conference (#MTHCON26) is scheduled for September 29–30, 2026, at Studio Babelsberg. Supported by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, the conference will bring together international speakers to discuss the intersection of creativity and technology. Topics include the impact of generative AI on the industry, global perspectives from Bollywood, and innovation in production efficiency, such as recent developments in Wales.
