Hayao Miyazaki continues working on secret project at Studio Ghibli

Despite previous retirement announcements, 85-year-old animation legend Hayao Miyazaki continues to work at Studio Ghibli on a daily basis. While his next project remains a closely guarded secret, Studio Ghibli CEO Kenichi Yoda has confirmed that Miyazaki is active in the studio, noting, “Only he knows exactly what he’s working on.”

Following the Academy Award success of “The Boy and the Heron,” the studio is navigating a period of transition. While Goro Miyazaki is considered a potential creative successor, the studio maintains a commitment to its traditional artisanal approach rather than moving toward a franchise-driven or industrialized model. Goro Miyazaki has suggested that the new, mysterious project might be a nostalgic action-adventure film reminiscent of classic Ghibli works.
