Studio Ghibli has no immediate plans for new film releases

Studio Ghibli does not have plans to release a new film in the near future, according to Hiroyasu Matsuoka, CEO of the distributor Toho. Matsuoka noted that the studio's production pace is unpredictable and that while the distributor maintains casual discussions regarding potential projects, not all ideas move forward into production.

The studio's most recent release was the Oscar-winning ‘The Boy and the Heron’ in 2023.

Separately, the classic 1988 animationGrave of the Fireflies’, directed by Isao Takahata, is scheduled for an exclusive theatrical re-release in Brazil this August. The film, based on a semi-biographical book by Akiyuki Nosaka, depicts the struggles of two siblings surviving in Japan during World War II.
