Studio Ghibli ‘Zen and Ghibli’ exhibition to open in Kyoto
The ‘Zen and Ghibli’ Kyoto Exhibition is scheduled to take place from October 3 to December 6, 2026, at the Kyoto City Kyocera Museum of Art. This immersive exhibition is based on the book ‘Zen and Ghibli’ by Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki, which features dialogues between Suzuki and Zen monks.
The exhibition focuses on the worldview of Hayao Miyazaki’s film ‘The Boy and the Heron,’ utilizing three-dimensional structures and spatial design to allow visitors to experience a ‘Zen-like gaze.’ Displays will include famous scenes, dialogue, and photographs from various Ghibli works, such as ‘Spirited Away,’ ‘Ponyo,’ and ‘Howl’s Moving Castle,’ recreating the otherworldly settings often depicted in the films.
Actress Yuriko Ishida has been appointed as the exhibition’s supporter. Special content will be released on the official YouTube channel, featuring Ishida and Toshio Suzuki discussing topics such as Zazen meditation experiences and insights into Miyazaki’s creative process.
