Study Identifies Risk Patterns for Sudden Cardiac Arrest; Doctors Advise Regular Checks

Researchers led by cardiologist Sumeet S. Chugh analyzed data from nearly 700 individuals to pinpoint symptom combinations that signal an imminent out‑of‑hospital cardiac arrest. Their computer‑based analysis found that the mix of a specific symptom, the patient’s sex, and existing heart disease predicts risk far better than any single symptom such as chest pain or breathlessness. The findings, published in the journal *Circulation: Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology*, suggest that more than half of people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest exhibit none of the classic warning signs, underscoring the need for broader risk assessment.

In Paraguay, cardiology experts warned that most sudden cardiac deaths are linked to undiagnosed cardiovascular disease and stressed the importance of routine cardiovascular examinations, especially for individuals over 35. They urged the public to heed warning signs like unexplained fainting, chest pressure, shortness of breath, or irregular heartbeat, and to seek immediate medical evaluation. Both reports highlight prevention and rapid response as key to improving survival rates.
