Study Links E‑Cigarette Flavors and Devices to Gene Changes and Health Risks
Researchers at the University of Southern California found that regular e‑cigarette users exhibit alterations in the activity of 3,124 genes compared with non‑users. About two‑thirds of these changes were linked to the flavors used and the type of vaping device, with fruit‑flavored liquids and advanced “mod” devices showing the greatest impact.
A separate analysis notes that e‑cigarettes have not proven effective for smoking cessation and contain carcinogenic substances. Surveys in Spain report that roughly 23 % of students aged 14‑18 have tried vaping, and many combine it with traditional tobacco use, raising concerns about passive exposure and long‑term health effects.
