Study Links Flanders to Don Quixote Authorship Debate

Professor Francisco Calero, emeritus professor of Latin Philology at UNED, has published a paper in Acalanda Magacín suggesting that numerous references to Flanders in Miguel de Cervantes' "Don Quixote" point to a deeper connection with the region. He argues that details such as "banks of Flanders," Flemish tapestries, windmills and the term "gymnasios" align more closely with the biography of Juan Luis Vives, who lived in the Low Countries, than with Cervantes himself. Calero states that the accumulation of linguistic, philosophical and cultural clues strengthens the hypothesis that Flanders played a significant role in the novel's background, challenging traditional views of its authorship.

The study does not claim to prove a new author but adds a set of corroborating evidences that could reshape scholarly understanding of the novel's historical context.
