Study links gender ideology to support for left-wing political violence

A study commissioned by the Department of Health and Human Services has identified a measurable link between the acceptance of transgender ideology and support for left-wing political violence.

Researchers from Rutgers University, the Manhattan Institute, and the Network Contagion Research Institute produced the report, titled “Where the Clinic Meets the Movement: Does Gender Ideology Arm Left-Wing Authoritarian Psychology?”. The study surveyed 1,208 American adults regarding the importance of affirming gender identity and perceived threats to transgender individuals from groups such as the Supreme Court and white supremacists.

To measure gender ideology, researchers utilized the Clinical Gender Affirmation Scale (CGAS), based on consensus positions from the American Psychological Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. The study found that CGAS and related measures were strongly associated with left-wing authoritarianism (LWA), with Spearman correlations ranging from 0.44 to 0.59. The report notes that CGAS accounted for 31.5% of the variance in LWA, and while political identity was the strongest predictor in regressions, LWA remained an independent predictor.
