Study Links Gut Signals to Food Memory and Highlights Brain‑Boosting Foods
Research published in *Nature Communications* shows that the intestine can signal the brain to form lasting memories of nutrient‑rich meals. Scientists at the University of Southern California demonstrated in mouse models that consumption of high‑nutrient foods triggers vagus‑nerve signaling, increasing acetylcholine release in the hippocampus and strengthening food‑related memory. Low‑calorie or non‑nutritive foods did not produce the same effect, suggesting an evolutionary mechanism to remember valuable food sources.
