Study links space radiation to rapid liver aging; Brazil reports top occupational illnesses

Researchers at the University of Central Florida exposed laboratory animals to simulated deep‑space radiation and microgravity, finding genetic changes in the liver within 24 hours that mirror natural aging. The experiments showed increased cellular senescence, inflammation and fibrosis, and similar alterations were observed in blood samples from NASA astronauts. The team highlighted antagomir molecules as a potential way to counteract these effects.

Data from Brazil’s Ministry of Social Security show more than 4.1 million temporary disability benefits granted in 2025. The most common occupational health problems leading to work absence were back and spine pain, intervertebral disc disorders, mental‑health conditions such as anxiety and depression, shoulder and upper‑limb injuries, and fractures. Experts note the importance of proper documentation for workers to access their rights.
