Sturgis Motorcycle Rally begins in South Dakota

The 86th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally has commenced in South Dakota, drawing approximately 500,000 attendees to the small town of Sturgis and the surrounding Black Hills region. The ten-day event features a variety of activities, including motorcycle races, stunt shows, vendor exhibitions, and organized group rides.

Musical performances are a major component of the rally, with a concert lineup including Megadeth, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rob Zombie, Insane Clown Posse, and country star Lainey Wilson, who is scheduled to perform on August 12. The event also highlights industry developments, such as Harley-Davidson debuting the new Deadwood motorcycle and Indian Motorcycle introducing the Indian Chief Vintage Sturgis SD Edition.

Originally started in 1938 by Indian Motorcycle dealer Pappy Hoel as a racing event, the rally has grown from a small gathering into one of the world's largest motorcycle events. Attendees frequently use the rally as a base to visit regional landmarks such as Mount Rushmore National Memorial, Custer State Park, and Badlands National Park.
