Sturgis Motorcycle Rally marks 86th year in South Dakota

The 86th annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is currently underway in Sturgis, South Dakota, drawing an estimated 500,000 visitors to the Black Hills region for a week of riding, music, and racing.

To mark the event, Indian Motorcycle unveiled the Indian Chief Vintage Sturgis, SD Edition. This limited production run consists of only 125 individually serialized motorcycles. The model features a red-and-cream paint scheme and honors the rally’s 1938 origins, with prices starting at $23,999.

Amid the large gathering, safety officials are emphasizing caution. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data indicates that motorcyclists were significantly more likely to die or be injured in motor vehicle crashes in 2024 compared to passenger car occupants. The Wyoming Highway Patrol has also urged drivers in surrounding counties to remain vigilant due to the increased volume of motorcycle traffic.
