Stuttgart advances green hydrogen hub with new storage tanks

Stadtwerke Stuttgart has installed four low-pressure storage tanks at the Neckarhafen in Wangen as part of the Green Hydrogen Hub Stuttgart (GH2S) project. The tanks, each weighing approximately 65 tons and standing 22 meters tall, provide a combined volume of 328 cubic meters.

This infrastructure allows for the storage of up to 2,100 kilograms of green hydrogen, enabling flexible production and supply for the Stuttgart region. By buffering hydrogen produced via electrolysis during periods of high solar or wind energy availability, the system can distribute the gas according to demand via pipelines or trailers.
