Stuttgart: Garbage truck fire on A8 motorway near airport

A garbage truck caught fire on the A8 motorway near Stuttgart Airport on Tuesday afternoon, causing significant traffic delays during the evening rush hour. The fire broke out around 4:00 PM near the Bosch parking garage.

Firefighters encountered difficulties because the fire damaged the vehicle's hydraulics, preventing the waste container lid from opening. To access the source of the flames, emergency responders had to climb onto the vehicle and use a power cutter to create an opening in the container. Once the opening was made, they used hoses to flood the interior.

The operation involved the Stuttgart professional fire department, the Plieningen volunteer fire department, and the airport fire department. The incident lasted approximately two and a half hours, concluding around 6:30 PM. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
