Stuttgart 21 infrastructure delays inspire new walking simulator video game

Developer Willi Schorrig and his studio, Hanging Gardens Interactive, are creating a walking simulator titled ‘S21 – The Game’. The video game is inspired by the long, provisional pedestrian tunnel at Stuttgart's main station, which connects the city center to the tracks.

The project serves as a commentary on the delays and frustrations associated with the Stuttgart 21 multi-billion euro infrastructure project. Schorrig noted that the game aims to capture the feeling of being constantly promised completion dates that are repeatedly pushed back.

In the game, players must navigate the approximately 350-meter-long, dimly lit tunnel, attempting to reach platform 9 within 20 minutes while facing various obstacles. The experience is designed to evoke both amusement and irritation, mirroring the real-world experience of commuters.
