STV Machinery resumes BMP-1 hull production in Slovakia

STV Machinery, a subsidiary of STV Group, has resumed production of BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicle hulls in Dubnica nad Váhom, Slovakia, marking the first such production in the region in 36 years.

Two prototypes have been completed: one for testing final assembly and weapons system integration, and a second for physical and stress testing. While the identity of the customer remains confidential for security and business reasons, the company is preparing for serial production of several dozen hulls in 2026 and 2027. Future production rates could potentially reach 100 vehicles annually.

The new hulls are not mere copies of the original designs; they have been redesigned to meet NATO requirements, featuring improved ergonomics and modern armor protection materials. Additionally, customers will have the option to integrate various powerplants, including Western-manufactured engines.
