Slovak media and social security undergo significant changes

Several significant changes are occurring within the Slovak media and social security landscape.

In television, presenter Jana Hospodárová is leaving Športové noviny after 15 years to join the public affairs magazine Reflex on Markíza, where she will co-host with Lucia Hlaváčková. Simultaneously, the public broadcaster STVR has completed its transition to the DVB-T2 standard for its third multiplex. This move provides Full HD quality for its channels but requires viewers with older receivers to perform a manual or automatic re-tuning, and may necessitate new set-top boxes for those using older DVB-T hardware.

Regarding social welfare, the Social Insurance Agency (Sociálna poisťovňa) has announced increased maximum amounts for several benefits effective from 2027. Due to the rise in the general assessment base, maximum maternity benefits could reach up to 2,476.70 euros for a 31-day month, while maximum sickness benefits may rise to 1,816.20 euros. These adjustments also apply to pregnancy benefits and caregiver allowances.
