Omonia Nicosia advances to Europa League after defeating STVV

Omonia Nicosia has qualified for the UEFA Europa League League Phase after defeating Sint-Truidense VV (STVV) 4-2 in the second leg of their playoff match. Despite STVV holding a 1-0 lead from the first leg, Omonia secured a 4-3 aggregate victory.

French striker Loïc Diony was the standout performer, scoring a hat-trick to dismantle the Belgian side's defense. STVV's Ilias Sebaoui managed to score a penalty to briefly keep the aggregate score level, but Diony's clinical finishing and a late goal by Panagiotou ensured Omonia's progression.

As a result of the loss, STVV will instead compete in the UEFA Conference League. The Belgian club, which features several Japanese players including Shogo Taniguchi, struggled with defensive errors and the intense heat in Nicosia during the decisive match.
