Styrian motorway renovation nears completion amid regional traffic delays

Renovation work on the Styrian motorway between Dramlje and Slovenske Konjice is nearing completion. DARS, the Slovenian motorway company, expects the current traffic arrangements to be lifted by August 31. By September 1, traffic is expected to flow in both directions with two lanes each.

While major construction on the roadway, bridges, and tunnels is finished, final works involving electrical installations, tunnel equipment, and traffic signage are ongoing. During the transition, traffic toward Ljubljana will be restricted to 60 km/h due to low safety barriers used for testing. Some weekend closures are expected in September for final testing.

Additional restrictions will remain in place from September 7 to approximately November 15, during which a 3.2-kilometer stretch between the Slovenska Bistrica south junction and the Devina viaduct will be closed.

Separately, significant traffic congestion has been reported across several major Slovenian motorways, including the Dolenjska, Gorenjska, and Primorska routes, as well as the Ljubljana western and southern bypasses. Delays have been noted near the Karavanke tunnel, the Vipava expressway, and various junctions due to both construction and vehicle breakdowns.
