Su-34 bomber damaged in attack on Akhtubinsk air base

A Russian Su-34 strike bomber sustained “severe damage” during an attack on the Akhtubinsk military airfield in the Astrakhan province. The incident occurred between the night of August 19 and the early morning of August 20.

Satellite imagery released by the OSINT project Exilenova+ revealed thermal signatures at the airfield following a drone strike. Analysts reported that the strike caused a fuel leak, which led to a fire that severely damaged the aircraft. The Su-34 is a twin-seat fighter-bomber developed by Sukhoi, capable of carrying up to 8 tons of weaponry, including precision-guided missiles and bombs.

The Russian military has not yet commented on the reported damage.
