Su Chiao-hui and Li Sichuan clash over New Taipei City development
As the local elections approach, New Taipei City mayoral candidates Su Chiao-hui and Li Sichuan are engaged in a heated debate over urban planning and infrastructure. A primary point of contention is the proposed relocation of Songshan Airport. Su Chiao-hui has expressed skepticism regarding the relocation, citing concerns over transportation and medical access for residents, and has instead proposed developing the Tamsui Hsinchu Science City as a hub for AI industries to keep talent and capital within New Taipei City.
In response, Li Sichuan’s campaign has accused Su of being evasive on key issues. The campaign specifically pointed to allegations regarding ‘Kuang-Shi Intelligence,’ a company involving Su’s family, and criticized her handling of central government subsidies for the New Taipei Metro. Li maintains that his infrastructure plans, including the extension of the Zhonghe-Guangfu Line, are independent of the airport's status.
Separately, Su Chiao-hui recently held a joint campaign event in Xinzhuang with Taipei City candidate Shen Po-yang. During the event, Su emphasized a vision of ‘win-win’ cooperation between Taipei and New Taipei, aiming to foster regional prosperity through shared industrial and talent resources while ensuring New Taipei remains a central pillar of the metropolitan area’s development.
