Su Chiao-hui receives VP endorsement amid rising negative sentiment

The New Taipei mayoral race is intensifying as political figures and public sentiment clash. Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim recently endorsed Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) candidate Su Chiao-hui during a campaign event at the Houpu Fude Temple in Banqiao. Hsiao praised Su’s resilience and local policy expertise, stating she hopes to proudly call Su her mayor by the end of the year.

However, internal data from the Kuomintang (KMT) suggests Su Chiao-hui is facing significant negative public sentiment. Reports indicate her negative online mentions reached 71.24% between September 16 and 19, with critics linking her image to the controversial actions of her father, former Premier Su Tseng-chang. KMT members have criticized Su Tseng-chang’s past conduct, including his tenure as Taipei County Magistrate.

Meanwhile, KMT candidate Li Chien-chang has seen an increase in overall discussion volume, though his negative sentiment has also risen to 35.1%. The election has become a battle of narratives, with both sides exchanging accusations of smear campaigns and political maneuvering.
