Su Ching-chuan targets Pingtung development in campaign rally
Kuomintang Pingtung County Magistrate candidate Su Ching-chuan held a campaign rally at Dexing Temple in Fangliao, where former legislator Tsai Pi-ru expressed support for his candidacy. The discussion focused on critical issues facing southern Pingtung, including the need for the Pingnan Expressway, improvements in rural medical care, and agricultural economic development.
Su highlighted several governance challenges facing the region, noting that Pingtung's average life expectancy is 3.87 years lower than the national average and its average income ranks second to last in Taiwan. He also addressed population decline and the necessity of improving flood control infrastructure in areas like Wandan and Linluo.
During the event, Su made comments regarding the current administration's understanding of childcare, stating, “Our magistrate has not raised children, so they do not know the hardship of raising and educating children.” This remark drew condemnation from the campaign headquarters of incumbent Chou Chun-mi, which labeled the comments as discriminatory and demanded a formal apology.
