Suan Dusit Poll: Thais lack confidence in government disaster response

A Suan Dusit Poll survey of 1,241 participants reveals that a majority of Thais lack confidence in the government's ability to manage natural disasters. Approximately 53.19% of respondents expressed low confidence in the government's disaster response capabilities.

Flooding, forest runoff, and landslides are the primary concerns for 84.29% of those surveyed. Respondents identified climate change and global warming as the leading causes of increasing disaster frequency and severity, cited by 69.70%. Other contributing factors include human behavior and deforestation.

To improve preparedness, the public suggests the government prioritize environmental problem-solving to reduce disaster intensity, followed by improving evacuation plans, emergency assistance, and disaster prevention budgeting. While citizens are taking individual precautions, such as monitoring news and warnings, experts emphasize that the state must shift from reactive measures to proactive risk management and root-cause prevention.
