Suan Dusit Poll: Thais prioritize economy over political protests

A Suan Dusit Poll survey of 1,149 people conducted in September 2026 indicates that a significant portion of the Thai public is hesitant regarding political demonstrations. Approximately 40% of respondents believe it is not currently an appropriate time for political protests.

The survey identified economic issues and the cost of living as the primary drivers that could lead to future demonstrations, cited by 69.54% of participants. This was closely followed by political legal cases, specifically regarding Senate election irregularities, at 68.76%.

While 47.95% of respondents believe protests can help reflect important societal issues, and 41.86% believe they could lead to change, there is uncertainty regarding the direction of such change. Dr. Pornpan Buathong, President of Suan Dusit Poll, noted that accumulated pressure from economic struggles and political confidence suggests that protests may not be the immediate solution, expressing concern that they could lead to further conflict rather than resolution.
