Suat Özçağdaş removed from İBB trial courtroom

During the 79th day of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) trial at Marmara Closed Prison, tension arose when YENİ Party MP Suat Özçağdaş was ordered to leave the courtroom.

Court officials stated that Özçağdaş was prohibited from attending the hearing under Article 203 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK). A court usher announced that the proceedings would not commence unless individuals subject to this ban vacated the room. Özçağdaş demanded a written legal decision to justify the restriction, calling the application unlawful.

Özçağdaş ultimately decided to leave the courtroom, stating he did so out of respect for the families of the defendants to ensure the hearing could proceed without further delay. He noted that he had previously filed a complaint and a defamation lawsuit against the court president following a separate incident on July 2.
