Sub-Inspector Ajmal Haque arrested in Mumbai over rape allegations

Ajmal Haque, a Sub-Inspector posted in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, was arrested in Mumbai on Monday, August 17, 2026, in connection with an alleged rape. The incident reportedly occurred at a guest house in the CL Block area of Salt Lake, near Kolkata.

The arrest followed a written complaint filed by a woman last month. According to investigators, Haque had previously secured bail regarding the case but went missing after the Bidhannagar East Police contacted the Birbhum district police.

Following a tip-off, police traced Haque to Mumbai. After appearing before a local court, he was remanded and transported back to Kolkata. He is expected to appear before the Bidhannagar Court to face further questioning as the investigation continues.
