Subaru WRX updates feature manual transmission options

The 2026 Subaru WRX continues to offer a six-speed manual transmission as a standard feature for several trim levels, including the Base, tS, and Series Yellow models. The entry-level base model has seen a price reduction of approximately $5,000 compared to the 2025 version, bringing its cost closer to $33,000.

In the Japanese market, Subaru is preparing to introduce the heavy-duty TY85 manual transmission as a regular production option starting in November 2026. This move follows a period where the Japanese WRX primarily utilized continuously variable transmissions (CVT). The revival of the TY85, which was previously used in the older WRX STI, was made possible by the discovery of an existing production line at a partner factory. The new transmission development included input from Super Taikyu racing drivers and aims to complement the existing 2.4-liter turbocharged boxer engine.
