Subcutaneous furosemide shows potential to reduce heart failure hospitalizations
Early results from the Gator SCALES-WHF trial suggest that at-home subcutaneous furosemide may serve as an effective alternative to hospital-based intravenous diuresis for patients with worsening heart failure (WHF).
Presented at the Heart Failure Society of America Annual Scientific Meeting 2026, the open-label, non-comparative real-world study evaluates the feasibility of at-home decongestion using Lasix ONYU. The research aims to provide a sustainable escalated therapy for patients who have failed oral diuretic up-titration, with the goal of reducing hospital and emergency room visits.
The study focuses on safety and effectiveness, measuring primary outcomes such as adverse reactions or acute kidney injury within 30 days, and secondary outcomes including hospital readmission rates. Researchers also monitored creatinine, eGFR, and potassium levels in participants.
