SubmitHub study finds nearly 40% of July 2026 music releases used AI

A study by SubmitHub reveals that approximately 38.5% of music released globally in July 2026 involved artificial intelligence. Using its SH Labs detection tool to analyze over one million releases, the study found that 23.2% of tracks were fully AI-generated, while an additional 15.3% utilized AI-generated audio that was subsequently modified or processed by humans.

SubmitHub founder Jason Grishkoff emphasized the need for transparency, stating, “I think the path forward for AI music is disclosure. People should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to engage with AI-generated music.” The study also noted a discrepancy in artist reporting; when questioned about flagged tracks, 31% of artists claimed they had not used AI tools.

Streaming and distribution platforms are responding to the rise of synthetic content through various measures. Spotify is implementing an “AI Persona” label to identify AI-generated identities and will exclude such accounts from personalized recommendations and algorithms. Deezer has previously reported that AI tracks accounted for a significant portion of daily uploads and has moved to demonetize certain AI-generated streams. Other platforms, including Bandcamp and Beatport, have implemented bans or restrictions on fully or majority AI-generated content.
