Subotica hosts festival marking 25 years of German-Serbian cooperation

A festival in Subotica marked 25 years of German-Serbian development cooperation under the slogan ‘Germany and Serbia. Together.’ The event, organized by the German Embassy alongside GIZ and KfW, drew approximately 2,000 visitors to showcase joint initiatives in economic development, vocational training, youth opportunities, and environmental protection.

German Ambassador Anke Holštajn emphasized that Germany remains committed to supporting Serbia’s development and capacity building. Serbian Minister for European Integration Nemanja Starović acknowledged Germany as one of Serbia’s most reliable and significant bilateral donors.

Subotica was selected as the host city due to its historical role as one of the first locations in Vojvodina to initiate this cooperation. The economic impact of German involvement is notable, with six German companies operating in Subotica employing roughly 4,000 people, while German companies and their suppliers across Serbia employ approximately 80,000 people.
